The Toronto Maple Leafs are based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and are in the NHL's Northeast Division of the Eastern Conference. The Maple Leafs were founded in 1917, playing first as the Toronto Arenas from 1917-1919, then as the Toronto St. Patricks from 1919-1927. The organization took the name Toronto Maple Leafs on February 14, 1927. The Leafs were one of the "Original Six" teams of the NHL. In 2010, the Maple Leafs were listed as the most valuable team in the NHL at over $500 million.

Being one of the "Original Six" teams created some heated rivalries, as teams played each other 14 times during the season. The Maple Leafs were and still are rivals with the Montreal Canadiens and the Detroit Red Wings.

The Maple Leafs have won 13 Championships. Eleven of those since 1927 when the Cup was only competed for in the NHL. The Leafs have not won the Cup since 1967. They have the longest drought in the NHL.

The current GM, Brian Burke, is making some changes to try and get the Maple Leafs back to the top once again. He has hired a goaltender consultant. The belief is that you must have a great goaltender to win championships. He has also hired a new VP of Operations to help build the team, manage hockey and execute deals. Burke has also brought on Rick Dudley, as a team builder. Dudley is a long time hockey coach and GM. Burke gives 100% support to his coach which shows he believes in the future and in this team.
