Alabama Crimson Tide football started in 1892 and the Tide's first game against No. 1 rival Auburn in 1893 was played in Lakeview Park in Birmingham. Alabama football has one of the most tradition rich programs in the history of college football. The series between Bama and Auburn is in favor of the Tide. The two teams stopped playing in 1907 due to violence and finances, but resumed the Iron Bowl in 1948.

The most famous of all Alabama coaches was Paul "Bear" Bryant for which Bryant-Denny Stadium is partially named. Bear Bryant played for the Tide, 1933-1935 and coached Alabama from 1958-1982. Bryant coached many of Bama's over 20 College Football Hall of Fame inductees. Bear coached no Heisman Trophy winners as not until 2009 did Alabama football produce a winner in Mark Ingram.

Ingram played on one of Alabama's 9 undefeated teams (1925, 1930, 1934, 1945, 1961, 1966, 1979, 1992 and 2009) and won a National Championship. The Crimson Tide has won 13 National titles. The Tide has won 26 conference titles, 22 in the SEC.

The Crimson & White has won the last two bowl games under Head Coach Nick Saban including a 2010 victory over Michigan State, 49-7.

Alabama competes in the SEC Western Division and plays on natural grass in Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and has a maximum capacity of 101,821 fans.

The 2011 Alabama football team has high expectations and plays another exciting schedule.
