A member of the Big Ten Conference of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, the Buckeyes derive their name from the state tree of Ohio. Playing out of Ohio stadium, the Buckeyes have been in existence for over 100 years. The stadium seats over 102,000 fans. Block O is the official section of the loudest cheering Buckeye patrons.

The Buckeyes fans are treated to several traditions including the the dotting of the "i", where a senior tuba player or celebrity has the honor of capping a performance of Script Ohio by the Buckeye Band. Another band ritual is the Skull Session. Favorite songs of Buckeye faithful are Carmen Ohio, Across the Field, Buckeye Battle Cry and Hang on Sloopy. The chant O-H-I-O can be heard during games and across the globe among OSU fans.

The Hive is a tradition Head Coach Jim Tressel started with his Buckeyes where players join arms and come out of the locker room at a controlled tempo. Another gameday ritual is the Pre-Game Circle where the team circles the strength and conditioning coach and yells to get fired up.

A players tradition includes the receiving of a small charm that is called the Gold Pants. This charm is given to Buckeye players and coaches upon the defeating of the team up north, otherwise known as the Michigan Wolverines. This is the biggest rivalry in all of sports and Beat Michigan Week starts the festivities rolling at the end of the regular season.

Archie Griffin is the most famous Heisman winner as he is the Director of the Alumni Association at Ohio St. and the only two-time winner of the trophy.

Speaking of guys helping the team win Championships, Coach Jim Tressel was recently given a 2 year contract extension to allow him to remain the skipper of the Buckeyes through the 2014 season. In 9 years of being the Head Buckeye, Tressel has won a National Championship and finished runner-up twice. His 2002 Buckeye team went 14-0 and beat Miami (Fl) 31-24 in 2 OT's to bring home the crystal trophy. Jim Tressel is 94-21 as the Buckeyes leader. Tressel is 5-4 in bowl games including a Rose Bowl victory in the 2009-10 season over Oregon by the score of 26 to 17.

Last season ended well for the Buckeyes, but Buckeyes fans will have high expectations of Jr. Quarterback Terrelle Pryor. Pryor is entering his third season and expected to step up to lead Ohio State to another title. Craig Krenzel was the last quarterback to win a championship. He received snaps in 2002 from his now brother-in-law, who is a member of the New York Jets, Nick Mangold. The two Buckeyes married sisters, daughters of an Ohio State professor named Joe Barr.
