Remember watching The Addams Family as a kid? Well, their back, this time on the big stage.

The Addams Family is a musical comedy with music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa and a book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice. The stage performance is based on The Addams Family characters created by Charles Addams in his single-panel gag cartoons, which shows a ghoulish American family with an appetite for the morbid. Many film and television versions of Addams' cartoons exist, but the musical, which is the first stage show based on the characters, is based upon the cartoons instead of the television and film characters.

In addition to the original characters created by Addams, the musical introduces the new characters Mal, Alice, and Lucas Beineke, who are described as "straight arrow Midwesterners." The ensemble consists of a group of Addams Family ancestors, each from a different time period.

Lippa said he wrote most of the score to mimic each characters personality. This included giving Gomez a Flamenco-style Spanish score, Wednesday a more contemporary score, and Fester a vaudevillian score. "Let's Not Talk About Anything Else but Love" is very catchy, jazz-like Happy/Sad" is a ballad reminiscent of Stephen Sondheim.

A United States tour is scheduled to start in September 2011 at the Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts in New Orleans. There are many tour stops wich include Boston, Hartford, Saint Paul, Philadelphia, Dallas, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Los Angeles, Kansas City and San Diego. A stint is also planned for Toronto, Canada, at the Toronto Centre for the Arts, starting on November 16, 2011, and runs until November 27, 2011. Douglas Sills and Sara Gettelfinger have been cast in the roles of Gomez and Morticia Addams, respectively. Cortney Wolfson has been cast as Wednesday Addams for the First National Tour of The Addams Family Musical. She is the understudy for Wednesday and the Dead Bride Ancestor in the Broadway production.
