The Jaguars are members of the Southern Division of the AFC, in the National Football League. Along with the Carolina Panthers, the Jaguars joined the NFL in 1995 as an expansion team.

Playing out of Jacksonville Municipal Stadium located near St Johns River, the Jaguars were considered the darkest horse on the field. Florida already had two NFL franchises, and any new team would have to compete with already established franchises. The Jaguars soon proved that they were more than equal to the task however and in 1996, they finished their season out at 9-7. It was the beginning of a winning streak that would last till 1999.

Acquiring free agent wide receiver Jerry Porter and defensive ends Derrick Harvey and Quentin Groves, the Jaguars were hampered by injuries to the offensive line in 2008, but are expected to make a comeback for the 2009 season.
