Floyd Mayweather, Jr. and Victor Ortiz are set to battle for the WBC Welterweight Championship on September 17, 2011, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Victor Ortiz currently holds the belt, but Floyd Mayweather seeks to prove his formerly rated status as the pound-for-pound best boxer in the world by taking the title at 34 years of age.
Victor Ortiz, nicknamed "Viscious", brings a record of 29-2-2 with 22 knockouts. Fighting out of Oxnard, California, Ortiz is 5' 10" with a 70" reach. Ortiz was previously in the Lightweight division where he held multiple belts. Otiz is a very aggressive fighter and has power in both hands, which makes him a crowd-pleaser. Every opponent that Ortiz has face he has knocked down.
Floyd Mayweather, Jr., nicknamed "Money", challenges with a record of 41-0-0 with 25 knockouts. Fighting out of Las Vegas, Nevada, Mayweather stands 5' 8" and has a 72" reach. Mayweather is a five-division world champion, having won 10 world titles. He has been named "Fighter of the Year" by The Ring, twice, and "Fighter of the Year" by the Boxing Writers Association of America. But, most importantly, he has never lost.
