Dolphin Stadium

Dolphin Stadium also known as LandShark stadium is home to the Marlins as well as football, lacrosse, and soccer teams. The stadium opened in 1987 and was the first stadium of its kind to be constructed with purely private funds. The first game was actually a football game and not a baseball game, played against the Chiefs just after the grand opening.

Dolphin Stadium takes it’s from the football team that calls it home and has seating for over 36,500 people. Like the Metrodome the stadium is not a true multipurpose stadium, but a football stadium that can be converted into a baseball stadium. For that reason the Marlins are booked to move into a new stadium in 2012.

Most notable, the stadium has hosted two National League Division Series, Two National League Championship Series, and two World Series. Even though the stadium is not designed for baseball, the Marlins have never lost a World Series or a Divison Series on their home turf.
