Wrigley Field

One of the three oldest ballparks in the world, Wrigley Field was built in 1913 and originally named Weeghman Park after Chicago’s Federal League baseball team, the Chicago Whales. Today the field is home to the Cubs and seats 41,118 fans making it one of the smallest fields in services today even though it is one of the most actively used.

Originally featuring fewer than 20,000 seats, the stadium was built in an astonishing six weeks and has since been renovated multiple times to its current size. Over its long and proud history, Wrigley Field has been home to multiple teams from multiple sports including baseball, football, and hockey.

One of the more interesting features of Wrigley Field is the unusual wind patterns that come from Lake Michigan. Half the year, these winds tend to crop up and knock down potential home runs and turn them into outs where as the other half of the season, the winds will catch and lift a normal fly ball and turn it into a home run. Given this wind pattern, home run balls have broken apartment windows, and landed on rooftops behind the Field. To this day, fans gather on rooftops to watch the game and for a chance to catch a home run.
