Founded in 1996 by composer Paul O’Neill, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra (TSO) is a cross culture, cross genre group whose name was inspired by the Trans-Siberia Railway in Russia. The railway is said to connect cultures that would otherwise be isolated. Working with this concept, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra uses a full 60-piece orchestra and a choir, combining classical with progressive rock, symphonic metal, and heavy metal.

Most famous for their renditions of traditional Christmas songs, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra puts on full, elaborate concerts complete with a light show and pyrotechnics synchronized with the music.

With the release of their latest album Night Castle, the TSO is more popular than ever. Releasing their first album in 1996, they didn’t actually take their show on the road until 1999 when they played their first live show in Philadelphia.

Since then they have broken into two different groups informally known as TSO East and TSO West. Both groups tour their respective parts of the country and continue to wow audiences to this day making it one of the most successful concert tours in the country.
